Rod Pump stationary, heavy wall barrel, top anchor

RHA

The ELSI RHA pump is a precision, insert rod type with an API B12 heavy wall barrel and either a cup or mechanical top anchor (hold-down). The API B12 heavy wall barrel is externally threaded and has an inside diameter tolerance of +0.002 / -0.000 inches. The RHA pump assembly is installed in the well on the end of the sucker rod string and seated in the seating nipple installed in the tubing string at a predetermined depth.

Barrel:API B12 heavy wall barrel, externally threaded
Bore sizes:1-1/4"1-1/2"1-3/4"2-1/4"
Designations:RHAC (cup) · RHAM (mechanical)

Advantages

  • Recommended for sandy wells

Top anchor eliminates sand settling between barrel and tubing on the hold-down. Fluid discharged ~3 inches above hold-down limits sand accumulation.

  • Recommended for low fluid level, gassy or foamy wells

Top anchor allows standing valve to be submerged in pumped fluid. Pump barrel can act as a gas anchor in gassy installations.

  • Recommended for wells with scale or gyp

Plunger strokes out both ends of barrel, eliminating gyp or scale forming that could prevent plunger removal.

  • Recommended for wells requiring long pumps

Barrel hangs from top anchor, allowing self-alignment in deviated or horizontal wells.

Limitations

  • Not recommended for deep wells

Tensile loading on barrel during downstroke and potential for barrel burst due to internal pressure. Generally not recommended below 7,000 ft.

  • Not recommended for intermittent pumping in sandy wells

Sand can settle between barrel and plunger during shut-down, potentially causing pump sticking.

  • Tubing erosion opposite top guide

Fluid flow from guide port can impinge against tubing. Multi-port guides or hollow tube pumps mitigate this.

RHB

Rod Pump stationary, heavy wall barrel, bottom anchor

RHB

The ELSI RHB pump is a precision, insert rod type with an API B12 heavy wall barrel and either a cup or mechanical bottom anchor (hold-down). The API B12 heavy wall barrel is externally threaded and has an inside diameter tolerance of +0.002 / -0.000 inches. The RHB pump assembly is installed in the well on the end of the sucker rod string and seated in the seating nipple installed in the tubing string at a predetermined depth.

Barrel:API B12 heavy wall barrel, externally threaded
Bore sizes:1-1/4"1-1/2"1-3/4"2-1/4"
Designations:RHBC (cup) · RHBM (mechanical)

Advantages

  • Recommended for deep wells

Balanced pressure around the barrel overcomes tensile loading and burst disadvantages of top anchor pumps.

  • Recommended for wells with low fluid level

Fluid only needs to pass through anchor and standing valve to reach the producing chamber.

  • Recommended for wells with scale or gyp

Plunger strokes out both ends of barrel, eliminating scale or gyp formation that could prevent plunger removal.

Limitations

  • Not recommended for sandy wells

Sand can settle on bottom anchor between barrel OD and tubing ID, causing pump to be sanded in. Top seal assembly can mitigate.

  • Barrel subject to corrosive attack

Stagnant corrosive fluid between tubing ID and barrel OD. Bottom discharge valve can keep fluid in motion.

  • Not recommended for intermittent pumping in sandy wells

Sand settles between barrel and plunger during shut-down. Sand check in guide eliminates this problem.

  • Tubing erosion opposite top guide

Fluid flow from guide port can impinge against tubing. Multi-port guides or hollow tube pumps mitigate this.
